Talking Green with Terrasoles
by JULIA

All of their shoes are also machine washable and have a long life span.  Their store displays are made of recycled materials and they do not use boxes to house the shoes, so they are able to save space and materials in this way as well. I was attracted to their booth because of the minimalistic, welcoming design made from recycled cardboard and natural wood.

It’s great to see a brand going to such great lengths to encourage a greener environment, and I am happy to see the success that is being brought to them as a result. In asking Jerry what he thinks contributes to the success of the company, he explained that Terrasoles’ abilities to “bridge the gap between the indoor and outdoor shoe, tell the ‘green’ story, and stay in the sweet spot of pricing for their customers” allows them to set themselves apart while maintaining a solid gross margin. I would venture to say that another key to their success is the guy who is running the business… Jerry was incredibly warm, friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about this great brand from him.  J

I had a great time hanging out with Jerry Hemphill from Terrasoles. Jerry is the group president of the brand which only launched 17 months ago. RG Barry is the parent company and if you are not familiar with them, they own 27% market share of the slipper industry! Terrasoles was designed originally as an “after performance” shoe basically to be worn once a person has finished, running, skiing, hiking, going to the gym, but also as an indoor slipper/shoe that could seamlessly make the transition to being worn to the grocery store, mall or soccer game…basically wherever you may need to go throughout the day.  They started with 4 shoe designs  and in such a short time have made quite a name for themselves.

In speaking with Jerry about what he thinks attributes to the brand’s success a huge factor seems to be “GREEN”. Everyone knows green is the new black, but Terrasoles has been able to really take it to the next level by using recycled materials such as ground up cork and rubber and microfiber fleece.
