New POV
by JULIA
Jose sent me the following email late last week and I felt it was a good subject to put out there. He has a great point and I know that there is challeges for plus-sized women to find not only clothing but footwear. I remember last year, I was in NYC and there was a lady in a footwear boutique I was visiting trying on a massive number of shoes narrowing down choosing to buy not the one that she loved the most, but the one that fit. I was sad to see that she did not have the same joy that I have buying shoes simply because she didn’t have the average size shoe. I hope that there are people out there who will eventually make an effort to offer more sizes and cater to women of all shapes and sizes! Thank you Jose for bringing this to our attention! Your wife is lucky to have such a thoughtful guy!! —-
Julia ,
Woke up this morning , had some coffee , while my wife was calling the utility company, I happened to see an article about plus-size model or women. The title was,”She has money. She has taste. What shoe doesn’t have are stylish options. Why is the fashion world so blind to the average (14) customer?” by Emili Vesilind / LA Times
So, I began ready this 2 page news paper article and it was very informative, and for someone that has been in the fashion world for 29 years absolutely concurs with what was she wrote. I know that all Americans, including myself, are overweight, but this obscurity is bad. Basically, plus size women have the style and the money, but are being forced to buy their clothes at Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug Avenue, Torrid, Target, Kohl’s and Wal-Mart— which by the way is the # 1 seller of plus size clothing in the country. Sad, but true!!! These women do not have choices or are they able to express themselves…. even if they do have the money to do so.
It is easier to but clothing for your Chihuahua, than half the countries women!
When going to a men’s high end Beverly Hills type stores…. fat men are taken care of!!! They have all kinds of choices. The fashion industry sure has pronounced plus-size women as “marked unwanted women”! Why???
Of course as a man, do I find women with a figure more attractive? Yes, but this is me. I am not the only guy around; there are plenty of men that find plus-size women just as attractive and beautiful……. The eye is definitely of the beholder.
In her article the Emili tried contacting — Nordstrom, Macy’s, H&M, even Wal-Mart…. and they refused to comment on any such subject. Again why???
So as a shoe designer, a fashion aficionado and as a man, I would like to apologize for all the inconsiderate, miss-appropriate behavior that designers, retail outlets of any kinds have done. Their conduct and resistant is inexcusable!
This article has opened my eyes, I see things different now…. and it is for the better!
Regards,
Jose’
