Yes! I love it when justice is served! U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Tuesday that it seized 10,900 pairs of fake Nike shoes at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport last month. If they were legitimate, the shoes seized would have been worth $1.8 million, CBP said. The appraised domestic value of the shipment was $381,740. Sixteen pairs of used shoes were mixed in with the confiscated counterfeit shoes, an apparent attempt to hide the true nature of the shipment, CBP said. Read the full article here!
More good government work! Mayor Wishner of Sunrise, FL to do a shoe drive in July. Wishner served on the board of Shoes for the Soul, a now-defunct charity that provided shoes to disadvantaged children throughout Broward County. When founder Karen Morrissey moved to California for personal reasons, Wishner said he agreed to store the shoes in his warehouse. Next month, the shoes will be given away to needy children during the Christmas in July event at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise. Read more here!
This is a wonderful story! I’m sure you’ve seen the moccasins of this charity! A rugby coach for nearly two decades with Natal Sharks, Harlequins, London Irish and Worcester – turned his back on the game and trained his focus instead on Soul of Africa, an innovative charity which uses the intricate stitchwork and sewing skills of rural black South Africans to raise money to provide for the orphans of Aids victims.
