Whoa! where’s my Trivia!!??!!?! Got some down time to look here and post some finally – everybody needs a little dose of trivia for their brains! I have been busy like you wouldn’t believe and thought that I would never get to this – but I made it work, like Julia does! :) So here we go…ooh these are kinda tough!

SHOEBIZ TRIVIA

This world-famous manufacturer of athletic shoes has its origins in a company called Blue Ribbon Sports, founded by Phil Knight and his track coach, Bill Bowerman. Who is it? The answer is NIKE!  Phil Knight, a Stanford University Graduate along with Bill Boweman, one of his former coaches wanted to improve the quality of athletic shoes – so they started up Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS) and later changed the name to Nike. Nike is the Greek goddes of victory.

The fabric hook-and-loop fasteners with the brand name, Velcro, were invented by Swiss engineer Georges de Mestral in what year? The answer is 1948! De Mestral named his invention “VELCRO”. The name is composed of the French words “velours”, meaning “velvet”, and “crochet”, meaning “hook”.

The band “Shoes”, popular in the 1970s, began their career in what Illinois town? The answer is ZION! “The Villiage Voice” proclaimed that the album “Black Vinyl Shoes” was one of the top albums of the 1970s. The musical group included two brothers and a childhood friend.

This former First Lady of the Philippines, who took an active role in politics and social welfare programs, had a fetish for shoes. Who is she? The answer is Imelda Marcos! Imelda was First Lady during the reign of her husband, Ferdinand Marcos, from 1965 to 1986. They were overthrown by the opposition forces. Imelda possessed hundreds of pairs of shoes at a time when the country was in a deep crisis.

In L. Frank Baum’s story, “The Wonderful Wizard of OZ,” the Good Witch of the North comes with the Munchkins to greet Dorothy, and gives her ruby slippers. True or False? The answer is FALSE! The Witch gives Dorothy silver shoes. It was Noel Langly at MGM, who decided to make the shoes “ruby” red.
