Hello there! Erika here! As you may know I’m the new intern here at ShoeBiz. After a long week of hard fast paced work with the amazing Julia and learning a whole bunch of new things, I was given the task of attending SMOTA in Miami. Of course, I was extremely excited but the nerves kicked in as well.  Just the thought of meeting all these cool people that play such an important role in the shoe industry was very nerve wracking. With that said, if you can imagine a freshly graduated fashion lover in front of all these extremely hot shoes… That’s exactly what it was! It is equivalent to a kid in a candy store; I have to admit it was hard focusing on my task because I was fascinated on seeing all the bright colors, these different textures, all these ideas and concepts put into a shoe. I’m overwhelmed with being able to experience all this at such a young point in my career! So in this journey at SMOTA I met Monique Capelta, an amazing designer of boots and she’s also the spokes model for her line. Can you say OMG?!

I chit chatted with Monique for a while and getting to know her, she mentioned she was from North Carolina and brought her concept to California in 2005. “Walking all around LA with these fashion forward boots made a lot of heads turn” she says. Monique’s ideas are different, she’s not afraid on letting her thoughts stream into a shoe without any buts or doubts. When she started to design boots for herself she never really expected for the line to happen, it was kind of an idea that was more of destiny than ever planned. With her designs worn by celebrities like Britney Spears, Kathy Hilton and much more, Monique has achieved her goal, her dream to expose her art and the crowd to enjoy. There is no doubt these boots are hot and are going to cause a lot of head turning in the shoebiz.

One of the cool things is that her product is manufactured in Brazil, her primarily sale is to boutiques. Even though I’m not sure what the boots retail for, but from what I can remember they were very reasonable.
