Tony Hsieh’s NYC Book Launch
by JULIA
Congrats Sheena!
First off I would like to say that I am not the best event journalist or photographer…actually I am pretty terrible. haha. I think I get caught up having fun and forget to do my job, so please forgive me.
Last night was the launch party for Zappos CEO, Tony Hsieh’s new book, Delivering Happiness…I wasn’t even sure I was going to make it, but when my good friend and sometime Shoebizness contributor, John Licata sent me a text that he had a ticket waiting for me, I had to go and I am so glad I did! It was a great time and the first person I saw as I walk through the door, was my new friend Richard Hsiehand then not far behind him, rolled in my bff Mike Normart and the rest of the super duper fun Zappos crew! It traditional Zappos style, there was some quirky fun activities that people were having a great time with…including worm racing and button making (see below), which was one of Tony’s first businesses.
Later on in the evening, I met up with Sheena who had a bigger belly than I remembered and since she was sober, I knew something was up….well she is preggers! I would like to officially congratulate her and can’t wait until her little, chicken nugget (as I like to call babies) makes his/her first appearance in one of mommies rants. I am really excited as I am sure the entire Matisse crew is as well! That baby is going to be spoiled!
I also hung out with my other bestie, Geoff Greenthe VP of Talent Acquisition for Brown Shoe, peeps from Steve Madden, Stuart Weitzman and a whole bunch of “Nine Westers”…which was great! Every one was having a great time….the evening was capped with Tony speaking and delivering a giant check to the CEO of Livestrong, Chris Brewer and then a book signing. Like I said, it was a great time (except when a guy dumped his entire vodka drink on my head and down my shirt, haha) to be had and I cannot wait to read Tony’s book!
Okay, now I am off to the Hilton to check out the brands! Can’t wait to share with you what I find tomorrow….Enjoy the pics which I posted in the sequence that I took them.
I think the worms were tired of racing….
The Matisse gang! They’re going to be great uncles!!
The botton maker!
Buttons!
Mike Normart and his friend (I told you I was bad, sorry I forgot your name friend!)….if you look closely at Mike’s shirt, you will see our button. Unfortunately my eyes were closed. haha
They had a couple artists painting a mural througout the night….of course I loved that part! They started from a bare wall!
