Modern Brides are Adding Color
by JULIA
Occasionally we see a bold bride wearing color or, a neutral base with color accents. Although many of today’s brides hold tradition to heart in their choice of attire, they are way beyond matching white shoes. You might expect to see silver, gold, a metallic or even a print but a leopard pump with tiffany blue soles? Who knew?
A dear friend of mine married this year. They’re an awesome couple who I believe holds the recipe for forever between them. Not to mention, they married on the anniversary on my first date with my hubby of 25 years, 5/22, a date of good karma. Anyway, she wore blue. On her feet that is. You Know, something old, something new, something Borrowed, something blue. How cool is that?
Not only were the shoes beautiful, not only can she wear them again, but they were affordable and, comfortable! Her style of choice was Arleigh by Romantic Mates, she got them on Zappos. They feature red rubber hearts on the outsole to stop slippage n add cuteness appropriate for her special day. You can see them in the collage below, image is in top right corner.
I have a lot of free time and spend probably too much time in the early AM hours reading on-line blogs, news, etc. Let me share a bit of one with you. A reader wrote in requesting guidance about wanting to wear a brown shoe with her Champagne gown. Here’s the assortment recommended, prices ranged from $30-$300.
All this bridal talk got me thinking about how the world of bridal must be evolving so I did a ‘lil surfing and wow-I saw it all! Brides might not know exactly what they want but, they know what they don’t want. Bridal Shoes! Often when we hear the term ‘bridal shoes”, sadly, we think: uncomfortable, dated, blocky, stiff, bright white or ivory, blind-me satin…. Or, the clear plastic Cinderella slipper shoe.
On the high-end, Louboutin’s bridal shoes feature the iconic red sole ‘n they also come with the trademark blue sole ‘n linings. Brides favor the peep-toe sling backs ‘n pumps. But let’s face it, many brides are planning around a budget ‘n need to go with an affordable choice.
I saw scores of websites carrying traditional dye-to-match offerings as well decorated flip-flops from flat to, OMG, I can’t believe people wear them that high, plenty of decorated cvo’s even Chucks ‘n Docs dolled up in white. The options are endless at every price-point and, it’s brides’ choice, of course!
Seems to me, brides relying more on their passion for wedding shoes and tossing tradition out the window? Are shoe buyers planning for color in their bridal assortments? This could be a blog in and of itself. I look forward to your comments.
By the way, the blue-shoed bride I mentioned is one of us! She recently joined the Brown Shoe team through their purchase of Edelman Shoes. Congratulations Lenore and Rob!! Welcome to shoe world, it’s less like work if you love what you do!
