The Big Apple is receiving a special honor from Nike. Each borough of the fabulous city is receiving it’s own special style of the Nike Air Force 1s with different color schemes and laces. According to the New York Daily News, these limited edition sneakers will go on sale tomorrow for $135 per pair. This is such a cool idea and I believe they’re worth every penny.

British footwear retailer Dune is being introduced all over the world. The most recent stop, North Africa. The Dune Group’s Executive Chairman Daniel Rubin says, “ Libya is in the middle of a strong period of growth following the removal of international sanctions some years ago and the freedom to trade.” Rubin also expects the brand to open two more stores in that region by 2010. Also from Footwear News, Black Eyed Peas singer Taboo is making his second round in the footwear industry; this time, solo with a new line called the Taboo Deltah 3008. His goal is to “convey the lifestyle appeal of the Black Eyed Peas’ futuristic and post-apocalyptic vibe” through his footwear. Footaction will carry his line and it will retail between $65 and $85.

China’s footwear business is growing due to the 93% increase in 2009 of Internet sales. According to Online PR News, all the cost reducing benefits of using e-commerce is really making an improvement in the footwear industry.

Okay, so it’s not exactly good news but I thought the discussion on why flip-flops are bad was really interesting because I never believed they were appropriate footwear for anything other than to beach or a trip to the nail salon. I found multiple articles about the topic today including one from the Toronto Star discussing the harm flip-flops can cause to your feet and legs and another from the Tennesssean discussing the action one school is taking to ban the popular footwear.
