Join the Fun, Help a Charity
by Kimberly Rice

So exciting to introduce some awesome new contributors! Starting with Kim who I met a couple of weeks ago networking. She is a designer here in NYC but she has a passion for writing and to my great fortune, charity! We met up with her for Taco Tuesday last week and we had a great time. By we, I mean Mary, Ally (remember her??)  and myself. :) So she will be bringing you weekly articles regarding our industry from a charitable perspective! I am so excited to have her on board and hope you all enjoy her contributions! :) -Julia

Join the Fun, Help a Charity

My night started when the elevator doors opened and I entered a room full of red sole clad women.  Picture this…a luxurious open-air rooftop lounge, 2 for 1 drink specials, $3 tacos, and an awesome crowd dancing to uber fun music.  All of this while simultaneously raising money for charity!  All you have to do is join the fun and you are immediately helping those in need…what a brilliant idea!

So here’s the skinny on Taco Tuesday.  Each week, groups from prominent fashion and media companies come together and guest bartend to raise money for charities of their choice. This week’s event was Barney’s vs. S & B Run this City.  Each team selected a charity and then took turns sending their brave ladies up to the bar to face the crowd and serve drinks to all of the thirsty happy hour goers.  All of the tips raised were then donated to the selected charities.

My first Taco Tuesday happy hour was a super fun experience.  Luckily, the rain stopped and they were able to open the roof…well, for a little bit at least.  I ended up meeting a lot of the Barney’s girls who were so fun and outgoing!  And I left happy hour feeling very happy.  Not because of my 3 glasses of white wine starting to kick in, but because I had done a good thing that night, instead of my usual Tuesday routine – work, gym, shower, bed (not too interesting I admit!)

Waking up the  next morning STARVING, I realized I never had a chance to sample the tacos L I did however, have the opportunity to mingle and meet some awesome people, unwind with a few glasses of wine, and help raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, as well as, for the Have a Chance Walk to Fight Brain Tumors.  All in all, a successful evening!  I’ll just have to sample the tacos at the next event!

Check out the Website to see upcoming events.
