Hang On
by Ken Proctor

I love this weeks article and topic! I definitely can relate to the entire thing! Holding on for dear life and not giving up is one of the most challenging things we are faced with in life and a lot of people are not successful with it because let’s face it…..IT’S HARD! However, I always try to appreciate the daily rewards that come from putting yourself out there. I also tend to be a person that focuses intensly on the future which is great in most cases except that it can make me feel like I am not trying hard enough when things take longer than they should. What I remind myself to do is stop and think about where I was at this exact moment last year and then all the sudden, I am like wow….so maybe I should relax just a bit because I have come a long way! So if you find yourself in the place where you just want to hide under a rock in the dark until it’s all over….remember it will be worth it and when it is you will be standing on that rock with a huge smile on your face like you are the king of the world! haha That’s what keeps me going!! -Julia

Hang On

I spoke to a friend today who is hitting a bit of a rough patch lately.   My encouragement to my friend was simply “hang on”.   As Winston Churchill once said “When you are going through hell…keep going”.

Many of you that have read my columns know that getting Twig to where it is today has not exactly been ice cream and birthday cake.   I have countless shrapnel wounds from the first 3.5 years in business.   There have been many times that I absolutely wanted to throw in the towel.   There have been some really dark days when I honestly just did not want to get out of bed.   However, every book I have ever read about small business and entrepreneurship always mentions the same single ingredient which is essential to success: Perseverance.   I remember one chapter in a book that basically said that life’s real failure is when you do not realize how close you were to success when you gave up.   I think of this phrase often and it keeps me going.

So, my advice to my friend and to anyone who is going through a difficult period:  The best way to get through adversity is to go through it.   Hang on, and remember that the night is darkest just before the dawn.

ITSDF :

Thanks for the reminder not to give up and that things worth having are worth working for. Some days are tougher than others and I happen to read this on one of those tough ones… nice to know I’m not alone. Thanks again!
