The Daily Five, It’s All About the Good News!
by Jillian Heiner
I’m not sure if I’m cut out for long distance relationship, but boy am I IN LOVE with New York Fashion Week. Unfortunately, I will be gawking at the runway from the lovely first state of Delaware via my laptop… unless anyone wants to throw some runway tickets my way then I’m sure I will be able to change my schedule and hightail it up to NYC (hint…hint). Yesterday’s shows have already sent me into multiple heart-racing episodes as I watch via twitpics, blog updates, and live streaming at liconcenter.org. I’m happy to share my findings…
A glimpse of the shoes from Vogue’s Fashion Night Out (FNO) Image from Vogue.comMercedes Benz Fashion Week has a new home at Lincoln Center this year. The first show kicked off at 9 a.m. with Nicholas K followed by the Project Runway season finale catwalk at 10 a.m. Instead of spoiling whom the top 3 designers were, Project Runway sent down the last 10 designers: 3 finalists and 7 decoys. As I was watching the show on Lifetime last night I couldn’t help but read the reviews of the finale. Most viewers were not overwhelmed by the designs. Instead, they were just trying to figure out who was in the top 3. I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned for the finale on October 28. However, nytimes.com informed me that Jessica Simpson, who is branching out with a new denim line, is the guest judge. I can also say that Heidi unfortunately did not look her best in that orange pantsuit. But, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors rocked the show with their classic looks.
And speaking of Project Runway, the next person on my “stalker” list was Christian Siriano. I told you about his new line for Payless earlier this week and now I’m happy to report that his Spring 2011 season is to-die-for! The Asian, Indian, and African inspired ensembles were filled with earthy toned patterns, strong sexy clean lines, high waisted belts, and voluminous accents. To top it all off, the finale dress overflowed with exaggerated tulle – I loved it. The shoes, on the other hand, were structured and very architectural. Thank you Payless for bringing the crazy runway shoes to a store near me. I just hope I can actually walk in them! Pictures can we found at lelalodon.com.
What is a fashion show’s best friend? Answer: an after party. And there are lots of parties to tell you about. After the FNO’s show on Wednesday, stars went downtown to view the premiere of the new Katie Holmes film The Romantics according to vogue.com. After the screening, the Gansevoort Park Hotel hosted a rooftop gathering where Gossip Girl celebs and many more started off the week in style.
Accoring to WWD’s twitter, Chanel hosted a dinner last night at Empty Space in SOHO. Twitpics of Chanel Iman, Blake Lively, and Claire Danes are available via the site. The fashion god, Karl Lagerfeld was also in attendance as well as style goddess Rachel Zoe. I can’t wait for reviews of this star-studded event. “Knowing Karl” (could you imagine if I actually knew him) and his previous collections, it was beyond anything I could conjure up in my wildest dreams.
I can’t wait to see what the weekend will bring. Between celebrities, designers, party people, and models, the city is swarming with fashionistas. While they walk around in their sky high YSL’s or Louboutin’s I’ll be watching from the comfort of my couch living vicariously through tweets. Check the schedule of upcoming shows at mbfashionweek.com. And keep me in mind for any extra invites that you may have. Enjoy what I like to call “the most wonderful time of the year”.
